Please note - no proof found yet to show that James Pender's parents are William Pender and Barbara Fleeming.  William Pender and Barbara Fleeming did have a son names James Pender b1782.  Though this is likely the same person, whether the James Pender that married Margaret Milar is the same this James Pender has yet to be proven.

The 1881 census shows James Pender living at 442 Regent Road, Salford, Manchester with his wife Frances and sons (James and Thomas).  James worked as a millwright.  He employed a servant Eugenie Erard b. 1864. 

 

In the 1891 census, James Pender appears to be alone living at 20 Birch Street, Gorton, Manchester as a lodger.  His profession is a millwright (wood or iron).

 

Frances Pender is living at 218 Tatton Street, Salford, Manchester with: Elizabeth 10 Granddaughter, Herbert 10 Grandson, James 15 Grandson, John 38 Son, Joseph 13 Grandson and Pender, Thomas 21 Son. 

 

In the 1901 census, James Pender is now living alone at 14 Birch Street, Gorton, Manchester as a lodger.  His profession is a retired millwright.

 

The 1901 census also shows Frances M Pender living separately at 6 Sutherland Place, Salford, Manchester.  She is shown living with son John (working as a pottery maker) and his children Herbert (working as a miller/engineer) and Minnie (cotton weaver).
